If you make any changes, restart Firefox to complete the process. You may find Java has already been disabled in which case no action is needed.Find Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U11 in the list and click once on it then click Disable.In the Firefox menu click Tools then Add-ons.If you get a second notice about a Java add-on, click Don't Enable again. When Internet Explorer restarts, at the bottom of the screen a notice may appear that says, "The 'Java(tm) Plug-In SSV Helper' add-on from 'Oracle America, Inc.' is ready to use." Click Don't Enable.Restart Internet Explorer to complete the process." click to select and then in the lower-right corner of the screen click the Disable button. For each entry labeled in some form with "Java(tm) Plug-In SSV.Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner and choose Manage Add-Ons.Do not disable JavaScript in the web browser(s).
Java is not the same thing as JavaScript. It will be marked as needing an update and as disabled if it is out of date. To check if your version of Java is current for the most current version of Mozilla Firefox, in the Firefox menu go to Tools > Add-ons then click the link at the top of the page Check to see if your plugins are up to date. It is fine to allow Java to run for trusted Amherst and Five College applications but you may wish to not allow Java to run for unknown applications. When you encounter web sites or applications that require Java, a message window will give you the option to allow Java to run or not. By default, the Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome web browsers will disable Java. 
Apple has disabled Java for the Safari browser except for Java 7 update 13 or higher for OS X 10.7 Lion and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. To remove Java from the computer, follow the steps above for uninstalling Java. With this action, Java is disabled in all your web browsers but the Java application is still installed on the computer. Select the Security tab and uncheck the box Enable Java content in the browser. Go to System Preferences then click Java to open the Java Control Panel. No action is needed to disable Java for computers with these operating systems. To disable Java for all web browsers on your computer:
